Scheduled PostgreSQL backups never run, while manual backups work correctly

Environment

  • Self-hosted Easypanel running on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
  • Docker Swarm
  • PostgreSQL 16 service created and managed through Easypanel
  • Easypanel image: easypanel/easypanel:latest
  • Storage provider: Local Disk
  • Two databases hosted by the same PostgreSQL service

Problem

Scheduled PostgreSQL backups are enabled and saved correctly in the Easypanel interface, but they are never executed automatically.

Manual backups work correctly for both databases. Using the Manual Run button creates a valid compressed .sql.gz backup and the backup log reports success.

However, scheduled executions do not create any backup file or backup log entry.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a PostgreSQL 16 service in Easypanel.
  2. Create a database backup configuration.
  3. Enable the backup.
  4. Select Custom schedule.
  5. Configure the cron expression:
*/5 * * * *
  1. Set retention to 3.
  2. Select Local Disk as the storage provider.
  3. Set a unique destination path, for example:
project/database-a
  1. Save the configuration.
  2. Wait at least 15 minutes.

I reproduced the same behavior with two different databases and separate destination paths.

I also tried the normal daily schedule:

0 2 * * *

The automatic execution still did not run.

Expected behavior

Easypanel should automatically create a backup every five minutes while using the test schedule, add the execution to the backup log and enforce the configured retention limit.

Actual behavior

No scheduled backup is created and no scheduled execution appears in the backup log.

The backup configuration remains enabled and the cron expression is still displayed correctly when editing it.

Clicking Manual Run immediately creates the backup successfully, which indicates that:

  • The database credentials are valid.
  • The database name is valid.
  • The destination path is writable.
  • pg_dump can complete successfully.
  • Local Disk storage is working.

The issue appears to be related specifically to the backup scheduler or cron job execution.

Additional information

  • Both databases are hosted by the same PostgreSQL service.
  • Each database uses its own backup configuration and destination path.
  • Manual backups create valid .sql.gz files.
  • The issue persists after editing and saving the backup configurations again.
  • No failed scheduled execution appears in the backup log.

Please let me know which Easypanel service logs or scheduler diagnostics I can provide to help investigate this issue.

Hi, automated backups come with license. Do you have one?
